1. Initial Contact & Rough Estimate
It all starts with a conversation.
Once you reach out — whether through our website, social media, or by phone — we gather the basics of your project: approximate size, layout ideas, material preferences, photos, and anything unique about your space.
Using that information, we put together a rough estimate. This gives you a realistic idea of cost and helps determine whether the project fits your budget before we move into more detailed planning.
This step is no pressure, no commitment — just clarity.
2. In-Person Consultation With One of our Consultants At Your Home
If the rough estimate feels right, the next step is scheduling an in-person meeting with a member of our team.
During this visit, they will:
- Take accurate measurements
- Assess the property
- Review options for layout, materials, and functionality
- Answer questions you may have
- Provide professional insight into what will work best for your space
This is where your vision starts to become a real plan.
2.5. Showroom Visit: Explore Materials & Options
After meeting with our team member, many clients choose to stop by our TL Decks showroom to get hands-on with materials. This is one of the most helpful steps in the process.
During your showroom visit, you can:
- See and feel different decking lines, including TimberTech and Deckorators
- Compare railings, styles, and color options
- Learn about framing choices, including standard old wood option, and new innovative low maintenance framing alternatives.
- View in-lite lighting displays to understand how nighttime atmosphere is created
- Ask questions and talk through what combinations fit your style and budget
It’s a relaxed, informative visit designed to help you feel confident in your selections before we prepare your formal proposal.
3. Detailed Proposal & Finalized Quote
Following the site visit, we create a detailed project proposal. This includes:
- A finalized, accurate quote
- Material selections
- Railings, lighting, and upgrade options
- Timeline expectations
- Any village requirements
- A clear scope of work
You’ll know exactly what to expect — no surprises.
4. Permit & Village Approval
Once you have moved forward with us, our team handles everything needed to get the project approved.
We take care of:
- Submitting permit applications
- Providing drawings
- Communicating with the village
- Answering any follow-up questions
We keep you updated so you’re never left wondering where things stand. Once the permit is issued, you’ll officially move into our production schedule.
5. Pre-Build Communication
This stage often gets overlooked in the industry — but not by us.
While you wait for your start date, we stay in touch through:

6. Build Week
When your start week arrives, our team shows up early (usually around 7:30 a.m.) and gets to work.

7. Final Walkthrough
Once the project is complete, we walk the deck with you to review everything:
